On September 17th, 2023 members of the Fostoria community will be putting on the 13th Annual "Run the Res" 5k race marking thirteen years of fundraising for the fight against cancer. Due to the overwhelming success of the first twelve years, we are excited to see what this year brings. "Run the Res" not only exists to raise money towards a cure, but also to honor someone who loved Fostoria and lost his battle to colon cancer.
Jeff Shiff was born and raised in Fostoria, OH and considered Fostoria to be a diamond in the rough. Jeff served as a member of the Fostoria School Board as well as serving the YMCA for many years. He was co-owner and operator of Fostoria Iron and Metal for the majority of his life. Jeff was a friend to everyone who crossed his path and believed everyone deserved a chance to succeed. His love for life rubbed off on everyone who knew him.
Jeff was an avid runner prior to beginning treatment for colon cancer. He could always be seen running around the reservoir behind the water tower or at the Fostoria YMCA. Exercising had a special place in his heart, as he pushed not only himself, but also his four children to excel in everything they pursued. A large segment of the course is made up of that same reservoir that Jeff and his family have enjoyed for decades.
This year we welcome back our "Run the Res" veterans as well as all newcomers. We will once again be hosting the Annual "Kids Fun Run" for the little ones (ages 3 to 9) so they too can take part in this wonderful event. Once again we have will have chip timing and online registration.
We will see you in September!
